Be Vigilant

eva_paterson_be_vigilant.png

1 Peter 5:8 KJV Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour.

God has not given us a spirit of fear. We should not live in fear. However, we still need to be aware. We need to be careful. There are thousands of women of color reported missing every year. Sex trafficking is at an all time high. Black market organ sales are up. The victims of these crimes look like myself, my kids, my friends, and my associates. We must stay alert, and we do need to be prepared to protect ourselves and those we love. We must be vigilant.

Love Covers

1 Peter 4:8-And above all things have fervent charity among yourselves: for charity shall cover the multitude of sins.

This was yesterday's daily scripture. I started to think about divorce rates and came to the conclusion that we have been conditioned to quit. We don’t forgive. We don't give second chances. We quit. We get mad. We feel wronged, and we quit. Our love is circumstantial instead of unconditional. Our love is conditional. Our marriages are not based on devotion, but mutual convenience. We don't let love cover. We don’t love. We “like” strongly. Maybe we need to revisit the book of Peter to get a better understanding of the power of love. Real love covers.

Love Covers

In a day and age when everyone seeks to expose, we must remember that love covers a multitude of sins. I'm not saying that we should turn a blind eye. I'm saying that eventually everything does come to the light. We should not stand in a place of judgement casting stones. We should stand in a place of grace and mercy ready to forgive. The same way we would want God to be with us. Cover each other. Remind each other that we all fall short of the glory of God, but it is Christ that redeems us.

Love Works

Love-Works.png

I facilitated a Lunch and Learn series at my old job based on the book, "Love Works: Seven Timeless Principles for Effective Leadership" by Joel Manby. The principles in this book are based on the biblical principles of love discussed in 1 Corinthians: patience, kindness, trust, unselfishness, truth, forgiveness, and dedication. For eight weeks, we discussed and brainstormed strategies on how to improve the workplace and implement the principles of Love Works. Each week, it became clearer that I worked in a toxic environment with ineffective leadership that had no desire to let love work. How many of us work and live in toxic environments? How many of us refuse to let love work because of fear? I learned that Love Works when you let it. Love Works when you are willing to do the work. Love Works when you let go of fear and doubt and insecurity. Love works when you trust. Love works when you believe that love truly does cover a multitude of sins. Love works when you let love conquer all.
