Winning Strategy
The culmination of every football season ends with the Superbowl game. This year's Superbowl was between seasoned contenders and an underdog team. I've always been a fan of the underdog. Underdogs tend to fly under the radar. No one seems to pay them any attention until it's too late. However, underdogs and seasoned contenders must have a winning strategy. Years of opposition, failure, disappointment, and desperation can create a winning strategy. Just like years of proper training and execution can create a winning strategy as well. Sometimes, the best lessons are when we learn not what to do, but what not to do. When this lesson is implemented properly, the momentum is undeniable. Success in life requires us to plan, prepare, and learn from our past mistakes. Everyone loves to win, but everyone is not willing to do what it takes to implement a winning strategy.
Moving Forward
It begins with a step, and then another. Keep moving. Keep pushing forward. Don't turn back. Don't dwell on what was or what could have been. Walk boldly, knowing that the best is yet to come. It's natural to have anxiety about the unknown. It's ok to wonder. Moving out of your comfort zone is never easy. The hardest part is over. You've made up your mind. You've taken the first step. Now, take another step. Keep moving forward.
Soar
"When they go low, we go high."- Michelle Obama
It is not easy to take the high road. It is not easy to turn the other cheek. It is not easy to forgive. It is not easy to forget. It requires character and integrity. Thousands of women took to the streets in support of women's rights, the day after the inauguration. It was a powerful message of unity and feminism. There is work that needs to be done. We must galvanize. We can not wallow. We have to go high. We must soar.
Hail to the King
I have read a lot of articles about the repeal of the Affordable Care Act. I have read the ignorance of those who did not know that Obamacare and the ACA were one in the same. I have heard the pleas of those with pre-existing conditions, and those who could care less. I have heard the arguments for Healthcare Savings Accounts. I have tried to remain objective in light of America's new regime. In honor of Martin Luther King Day, I would like to salute the man, the mission, and the message.
“Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane.”- Martin Luther King Jr.
Nuff said! Hail to the King!
Do Not Disturb
Have you ever been in the middle of something important and someone disrupted you? It can totally throw your focus. It can be frustrating, and make you want to quit. Distractions have a way of taking a life of their own. They can hinder and halt your progress. Don't allow distractions to stop your current momentum. Wake up early. Stay up late. Plan accordingly. Do what ever it takes to find the time to focus on what you are trying to accomplish. Make others respect your time and space. Put up a sign that simply says, "do not disturb." You're not being rude. You're just making your time a priority.
Raised Expectation
It's a New Year filled with new hopes and dreams. Many people have made New Year's resolutions. It is a time filled with optimism and promise. People are buying self-help books. They are invoking the power of positive thinking, visualization, and attraction. These are all good things. However, if there is not a spirit of expectation and execution. They are all fruitless activities. Every year, we want to do things differently. We want to make physical, financial, and mental changes, but we don't want to do the work. Make a plan. Do the work. Raise your expectation. It all starts with raised expectation.
Blessed to be a Blessing
We are not meant to live this life alone. We were created to live synonymously. We are supposed to "do" life together. During this giving season, make a point to give someone something. You can give of your time, your talent, or your treasure. Our gifts and talents are meant to be shared with each other. Volunteer somewhere. Help a neighbor. Pay it forward. You are blessed to be a blessing.
